Privacy Policy

Last updated 2026-07-25

This is a small site run by one person. There are no accounts, no sign-ups, no newsletter, no ad network, and nothing here is ever sold. What follows is the whole picture, in plain English.

The short version: an analytics tool counts visits and which quiz result you landed on. Your quiz answers stay in your own browser and are never sent anywhere. If you click a link to a bookshop, that shop may set its own cookie so it knows the visit came from here. That's it.

Who runs this site

Sara Kay, an individual, at . For anything on this page, write to sara@sarakay.me.

What gets collected

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics 4 to count traffic. It records things like the page you're on, roughly where in the world the request came from, your browser and device type, and — because it's the only thing worth knowing on a quiz site — which result you were matched with. It sets cookies to tell one visit from another. It does not know your name, and no one here tries to work out who you are.

If you'd rather not be counted at all, Google publishes a browser opt-out add-on that works across every site, and their own terms for the data are in the Google Privacy Policy. Visitors in the EU and UK are asked first — see Cookies and your choices below.

Things stored in your own browser

The quiz keeps a little state on your device using localStorage: how far through the questions you are, which results you've already discovered, and whether you've turned the animations off. This never leaves your browser and is never transmitted to this site or anyone else. Clearing your browser's site data for this domain erases all of it, and the only thing you lose is your place in the quiz.

Server and network logs

The site is served as static files by Cloudflare. Like every web host, Cloudflare processes the requests that reach it — including IP addresses — to deliver pages and to block abuse. That processing is theirs and is covered by Cloudflare's privacy policy. No server-side logs are kept or reviewed here.

Fonts

One display typeface is loaded from Google Fonts, which means Google's font servers see the request — and therefore your IP address — when a page loads. Nothing else is sent with it.

Affiliate links

Some links to bookshops are affiliate links, explained in full on the affiliate disclosure page. When you follow one, the destination shop may set its own cookie so it can credit the referral. From that point you are on their site under their rules:

What comes back here is a monthly report of totals — how many items sold, how much commission. It contains no names, no addresses, and nothing about what any individual bought. If you'd rather not be tracked at all, search for the book on the shop's own site instead of clicking through; you'll get the same book.

What is never collected

Cookies and your choices

The only cookies on this site are the analytics ones described above, plus the browser storage the quiz uses to remember your progress.

Visitors from the EU and UK are asked before any analytics cookie is set: until you choose, analytics stays switched off, and declining is one click, exactly like accepting. Your answer is remembered on your device. Clearing your site data will bring the question back.

Everyone can also block or delete cookies in their browser settings, or use the Google opt-out linked above. Nothing on this site breaks if you do.

If you're in the EEA or UK

Analytics runs on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser and declining when asked again. Hosting and security logging rest on legitimate interests — a website cannot be served without processing the request.

You have the right to ask what is held about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to processing, and to complain to your national data-protection authority. Write to sara@sarakay.me and you'll get a real reply. Be aware that the analytics data is aggregate and pseudonymous, so in most cases there is genuinely nothing here that can be tied back to you.

If you're in California

No personal information is sold or shared for cross-context behavioural advertising, and there are no financial incentives tied to your data. This site is well under the thresholds that make the CCPA/CPRA apply to a business, but requests to know or delete are honoured anyway — same address, sara@sarakay.me.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has provided information, write to me and it will be deleted.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes will be described here rather than slipped in quietly.
